There was a time when people gathered around a dinner table to play poker or they went to the local race track for a bet but in the last twenty to thirty years there has been a proliferation of gambling products and services. Some Newsagencies rely upon sales of Lotto tickets and Scratchies to keep their business viable. Bowling clubs, Surf clubs, Tennis clubs, RSL clubs etc seem to build a business of gambling and alcohol around the sporting activity. I would bet that every city has a casino. And then of course we have the Internet – providing a gambling service for you 24/7. Gambling is big business and many so called charities support gambling while at the same time claiming to be helping people in need. Such hypocrisy. There was a time when charities were just that – charities – but now many charities are just big business in disguise. Gambling revenue has been worth billions to the Australian Government.
So why do people gamble? For a number of reasons. People smoke cigarettes and marijuana; drink alcohol, eat chocolate and sweet foods, and gamble because they are trying to suppress a negative emotion like boredom, loneliness and anxiety – and on the other hand they are trying to bring in a feeling of confidence or relaxation. Sometimes they are trying to give themselves something like love or nurturance.
Gambling is also a method of avoidance. It takes you away from looking at the present state of your life in an objective manner. It takes you away from considering what the best version of you would look like and sound like – and what you need to do to move from the present state to your desired outcome. (See the NLP Well-Formed Outcome Questions)
Gambling as mentioned before is also a means to change the state of mind – to give you the feeling that you have something to look forwards to and that somehow the activity of gambling is purposeful and meaningful. But for 99% of gamblers – gambling is just an energy suck – it is a delusional activity – you are kidding yourself that you will win. There are a few people who can make a living out of gambling but only a few. Most who make a living from gambling are the ones who provide the service – such as everyone who works at the casino – everyone who works at the sporting club – everyone who works at the Newsagency – everyone who makes a living from training and feeding race horses – charities that rely upon gambling revenue are particularly complicit. And then of course there are the Politicians who support gambling because they want the revenue to pay for their pet projects to keep themselves in power. Everyone who is associated with gambling in some way or another has dirt on their hands and they need to wake up for themselves and ask, “Why do some people waste so much time, money and energy on an activity that can never have a positive outcome?”
My name is Abby Eagle and I am an NLP Coach – drawing upon Hypnotherapy and Meditation – since 1984 and have helped many people quit smoking cigarettes and marijuana – helped people stop drinking alcohol – helped people banish food cravings for sweet foods, carbohydrates and chocolate – and helped people stop gambling – all in a matter of hours. If you want to know how I am able to achieve in a matter of hours what the mainstream services fail to deliver in a decade then feel free to contact me from my website www.abbyeagle.com
So I would like to share a couple of stories. I asked one gambler to total up his bets for the week and then compare the total in bets to the total in winnings. A week later he came back for his second NLP Hypnotherapy session and he told me that after one day at the pub – of tallying up his bets and winnings he could see that he was not only losing but had always been losing – and so he stopped gambling. I think this realisation was the most important factor for him in stopping gambling – the NLP Hypnotherapy component just helped him access and mobilise his inner resources such that he could discover the best version of himself.
I have a friend who works as a Uber driver on the Gold Coast. Some years ago he told me that the Gold Coast Casino will pay for a taxi home for any customers who lose big time. Not sure what the benchmark is for the free ride but on this occasion he picked up a customer about 4.00am who had just lost $5,000.00 and needed to get home in time to get to work at 9.00am. So for all those people who gamble please make a decision to stop gambling once and for all. And for all those people who work in the industry and rely upon revenue generated by gamblers – please stop doing that – you are also part of the problem – please do something more positive for our community.
The good news is that it is pretty easy to stop gambling, to quit cigarettes and marijuana, to stop snacking on sweet foods and chocolate – and to stop drinking alcohol – using NLP and Hypnotherapy. As I outlined before they all share the same pattern. People are trying to suppress a negative emotion and trying to make themselves feel better. In terms of Flow Science people are trying to get into the zone – the optimal state of consciousness in which they perform at their best.
