In this article we are going to explore some of the factors that play a part in miraculous healing so that you may be able to engineer that process for yourself.
Disclaimer: I am not a health care practitioner and what I say should not be construed as medical advice. I am a NLP Master Practitioner – NLP being a modelling methodology in which we look to successful people and model out the key elements in their mindset and behaviours such that others may try this on and get similar results.
So what is disease? Dis-ease is disharmony so we ask questions like: “How do you bring harmony into your life? How to be more at ease? How do you bring harmony into your mind and your body?”
So as always we start with the Present State to Desired Outcome Model. And you ask questions like what is your present state in life, relationships, career, health, etc? And then you shift to the future and you ask - what is your desired outcome? What will the new you look like, sound like and feel like? You should explore your desired outcome in as much detail as you possibly can in the cinema of your mind using the NLP Well Formed Outcome Questions.
Then you ask yourself, “Why do you want the desired outcome? What will this outcome mean to you? What is important to you about the outcome? Once you have established the big why – the purpose – you should now focus on the feeling associated with the desired outcome. Hold onto the feeling because this is the substance of faith. You may not know precisely how you will achieve the outcome but you have an image in the cinema of your mind of the new you and you have a feeling of conviction that the outcome is possible. This is faith and faith is a key aspect in miraculous healing.
There is a lot to cover in this article so I will try and be as concise as I possibly can but may I suggest that you take some notes and come back and read this article again and again until you have mastered each of the elements.
The next thing you need to do is set up a communication signal with your unconscious mind using ideomotor signals – commonly known as a hypnosis pendulum. Once you have a “yes” and a “no” signal with your unconscious mind then you can begin holding an intelligent conversation with your unconscious mind through the use of questions, statements and commands.
Think of the unconscious mind as a silent partner that will do absolutely anything for you as long as you should ask in the right way. Think of the unconscious mind as the Mayor of a city. There may be pot holes in the road that need to be repaired but nothing happens until you go to the council and asks the Mayor to fix the roads. Let’s say the Mayor says he can fix the roads but nothing happens – so you go back to the council and tell the Mayor to access and mobilise all the appropriate resources to fix the roads – which he does.
So you may have a health problem and the unconscious knows how to heal it. The unconscious mind may have all the resources to heal the health problem but nothing happens until you command the unconscious to access and mobilise your resources and heal the problem. What this means is that you have to learn how to get into the drivers seat of your mind and command your unconscious mind to facilitate a healing process. This starts by learning how to use ideomotor signals.
Now let’s take a quick look at the foundations of success. The first thing you need is to get a clear understanding of your personality type. I find the Myers Briggs personality typology to be useful. I am an INTJ – commonly known as the Master Mind. So what you should do is to take a free personality test to find your four letter code and then you go to YouTube and type in your four letters versus INTJ – and you will get a bunch of videos of people talking about the sameness and difference between your personality type and mine. You should run this process with the key people in your life so that you get to better understand yourself and others. You should also learn about the key NLP Meta Programs – which are perceptual filters which cluster together to form personality type.
Once you have a basic understanding of your personality type then you need to get clear on your passions and interests. This is very important.
You should also elicit your values in life, relationships and career – and also elicit the values of key people in your life – so you get a better understanding of what motivates you and what motivates them.
Once you know your personality type – your passions and interests and what is important to you in life – then you need to get yourself into an environment in which you flourish. In this way you will begin to live your life in flow. Flow being an optimal state of consciousness in which you perform at your best. In deep flow both past and future disappear, the critical internal voice disappears and you are plunged into the eternal now which creates a space for transformational healing to occur. We will go into greater detail about flow and healing later in this article.
But first let’s take a look at some key factors in longevity.
DIET: We start with diet. Did you know that a lot of health and behavioural problems could be healed just by changing your diet? But where should you get your information on diet? Who do you believe? Now as I mentioned before NLP is a modelling methodology so what I suggest you do is to look for three generations of healthy people. A good place to start is with the work of Dr Weston A Price who wrote the book titled, “Nutrition And Physical Degeneration”.
Briefly, Dr Price travelled the world in the 1930’s to study isolated groups of people living on a traditional diet and then compared them to people of the same racial stock living on what he called the foods of commerce – what we would now call processed foods or junk food. The results were astounding. Those people living on a traditional diet had less than 1% tooth decay - no serious illness - women had no difficulty in child birth and the siblings looked like each other and they looked like their parents.
Whereas those people living on the foods of commerce had rampant tooth decay – there was a narrowing of the racial form – that is the face got narrower causing buckled teeth – and the hips got narrower meaning that women had difficulty in childbirth. And siblings were of all shapes and sizes and did not look like their parents. And Western diseases became more prevalent.
When I first learned about traditional diets from Dr Weston A Price I made it a habit to ask people what they ate as a child. So when you see someone who is well proportioned with a nice jaw line and a great set of teeth – just politely ask them what they ate as a child for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Using Arnold Schwarzenegger as an example we are not interested in what he eats now but what he ate as a child. You will learn a lot from this exercise. Later in this article I will give you some examples of people where diet may have played a part in their miraculous healing.
But first we need to talk about exercise. Recently I saw a YouTube video of Doctor John Scharffenberg who is 100 years old. He travels the world to lecture people on the keys to longevity. He says one of the key factors to longevity is regular daily exercise. But what stands out in his videos is his mindset – he is constantly laughing and smiling. And as people have been saying for thousands of years, “laughter is the best medicine”. We will talk a bit more about the importance of laughter later in this article.
Now we have got the basics out of the way we can get onto mindset. The first frame of mind I suggest you practise is ‘acceptance’. So when thoughts arise in your mind about the past the first frame you need to hold is ‘acceptance’. So no matter what happened in the past don’t get caught up in the drama and the negative emotions – instead tell yourself to accept whatever happened. Say to yourself, “acceptance, acceptance, acceptance”.
Whether someone did something bad to you or you did something bad to someone else – the first step should be acceptance. We are all human – things happen – that is life. What you should be doing is looking for the positive learnings and then bringing those learnings into the present so that you can then take those learnings into the future – and thus step up to the next best version of yourself. When a past negative memory comes to mind I suggest you say to yourself, “There is something to be learned – something to be learned – something to be learned.”
Do you see the pattern here? You think of the past and you say to yourself – that is you tell your unconscious mind – acceptance, acceptance, acceptance. And then you do the same with the learnings. You tell your unconscious mind – there is something to be learned – something to be learned. The repetition is very important. When you command your unconscious mind it is a bit like talking to a small child where you have to repeat yourself a number of times until the child understands what you told them.
Another important frame of mind is ’gratitude’. Over the years I have listened to heaps of motivational speakers like Napoleon Hill, Jim Rohn, Jack Ma and they all talk about the importance of gratitude. Either first thing in the morning or last thing at night you should practise feeling grateful for absolutely everything in your life. If the sun is shining - feel grateful. If the skies are gray – feel grateful. If it is raining – feel grateful. The important thing is the feeling of gratitude so you need to associate the feeling of gratitude with everything in your life. The feeling of gratitude creates a mindset that is conducive to healing. Same as with the feeling of acceptance. What you are after is the feeling of acceptance and the feeling of gratitude. The positive feelings are conducive to healing.
The next frame of mind is ‘thankfulness’. Thankfulness is like an aspect of gratitude and a step towards gratitude. So once again, throughout the day, bring awareness to the thoughts in mind and find a way to be thankful. Be thankful for what you have in your life. Make it a habit to thank people when they do something, no matter how small. When you go shopping – feel thankful that there is food for sale – feel thankful you have the money to buy the food – and express your thanks when you pay the checkout operator. My mother told me as a child to be thankful for small mercies.
So far we have explored the importance of acceptance, gratitude and thankfulness – which are all skills by the way that you need to practise – and that brings us to relaxation.
If there is tension in the mind then this tension will also manifest in the body. Tension blocks nerve supply and blood supply – and interferes with a lot of biological processes such as digestion and heart health. So if you are looking to improve your health – and most importantly if you are looking for a miraculous healing then you need to find a way to deeply relax both mind and body. Step one should be to get yourself into an environment in which you flourish – which may involve removing people and activities which make you tense – and surrounding yourself with people and activities which help you get into a flow state.
I have mentioned flow a couple of times so now it is time to tell you about Steven Kotler. Steven Kotler had been ill with Lyme disease for a couple of years. In his own words he was ready to end his life but then his girl friend came over and dragged him out of bed and took him to the beach. Two of his friends walked him down to the water with a surfboard. I think it was California. They walked him out into the ocean with the surfboard. It must have been pretty flat but then a small wave came along and by habit he turned his board around and caught the wave. And then something amazing happened. He experienced his first no-mind state. He caught a few more waves and each time he experienced a no-mind state. The interesting thing is that he had never experienced anything like this before in his life.
His friends took him home – he was very weak and his girl friend had to feed him in bed for a couple of weeks until he was strong enough to take care of himself. He got back into surfing and ended up writing a number of books on the topic of flow states and healing. It took him about 6 months to restore his health to about 80% of what it used to be.
The more you can learn how to get into flow the better. Start by building an environment in which you flourish and focus on your passions and interests.
Now we get to self love. A key part of taking care of yourself should be the feeling of self love. You may express your love for other people – which is good but you also need to bring that feeling of love back to yourself. You deserve to be loved. You deserve to heal. So now I invite you to think of some creative ways that you could express love to yourself – but without using food or alcohol.
So now we get to kindness. You should practise expressing kindness to people and to animals. Remember it is not so much about the action but about the mindset and the feeling that it generates in the body. So go and practise some random acts of kindness and see how it makes you feel.
Now we get to faith. Faith plays a big part in miraculous healings. There is a story in the Bible about a woman who had a problem with her menstruation for 12 years. She held the belief that if she could just touch the robe of Jesus then she would be healed. So let’s unpack this.
She hears about the miracles performed by Jesus – so she gives him prestige and status. Then she tells herself – her unconscious mind – that if she could only just touch Jesus then she will be healed. So she has a goal in mind of what her healing will look like, sound like and feel like. And then she tells herself that if she is able to get close enough to Jesus and touch his garment then she will experience a miraculous healing. This is also known as ‘autosuggestion’ – which is a command to the unconscious mind.
She has a belief that if she touches Jesus the healing will occur. She has a feeling of conviction that if she touches Jesus she will be healed. Holding a conviction and a belief with a strong emotional component can also be called ‘faith’. She is highly motivated to go out on the street and look for Jesus. She has a big ‘why’. She has a compelling future. She has set an intention to look for Jesus – and touch him – so that the healing can occur. Once she touches his cloak then her unconscious mind is given the permission – the go ahead to complete the healing process. This is a really good example of a miraculous healing.
So now let’s take a look a learnings. So what did you learn about miraculous healing from the story that I just told you? What have you learned so far from this article? In terms of your own life you should make it a practice to review your day – and to reflect upon events in the past – and ask yourself, “What can I learn from this experience?” So rather than judging others or judging yourself – or looking for the negatives – you should focus on the positives and look for all the positive learnings – allowing new understandings to arise in your mind. You then use these understandings to look at other areas of your life – and you should also take the learnings into the future. In this way you build a new identity. As a side note my understanding is that you should focus on healing one health problem at a time.
Another key factor in miraculous healing is laughter. Now you may have heard the saying that, “Laughter is the best medicine”. And there is a lot of research which demonstrates that laughter boosts the immune system and changes your emotional and mental state. So make it a habit to watch or listen to some comedians on YouTube everyday. I find it interesting that the act of seeing people laugh may have an even stronger effect than actually listening to the comedian tell their jokes. And if you can hold onto the feeling of laughter and then bring your mind to negative events in your life you will find that the laughter feelings will transform the negative into a positive. In NLP we call this an anchoring procedure. So build laughter into your daily routine – and make it part of your identity.
And now we get to ‘meditation’. Meditation in its simplest form is just becoming a dispassionate observer to the thoughts in mind, the body and the emotions. Now what happens is that if a negative memory comes to mind – and rather than getting caught up in the memory and feeling bad – if you become a dispassionate observer to the memory and the feelings with a sense of fascination – and you stay with the sense of being a dispassionate observer then you will find yourself naturally preserving the positive learnings at the level of the unconscious mind – a new understanding arises and the negative emotion disconnects – and a healing occurs. This is basically Tad James TimeLine Procedure which I have used thousands of times with great success with my clients.
There is a simple meditation procedure which I find very useful. I call it an ‘awareness continuum’ – some people call it a body scan. What you do is scan through the body noticing if there is any pain, discomfort or tension – and if there is you don’t try and change it – you just notice it. So you start with the head and scan all the way down through the body to the feet and back up to the breathing in the belly. In this scanning process once again you are the dispassionate observer – you are the witnessing consciousness – the awareness. Awareness is the key.
Then I also use Dave Elman’s deep trance procedure. This is a procedure in which you can relax and enter a deep trance within a couple of minutes. Once in the deep trance you can work with the unconscious mind to facilitate a healing. So for example you may build an image in the cinema of your mind of the ‘new you’ – the ‘you’ who is in perfect physical health.
Now let’s take a look at some case studies. Let’s start with Joe Dispenza. Joe Dispenza broke his back in 6 places. He had a conviction that he could heal his body so he spent 2 hours a day visualising a healthy healed spine. In 10 weeks he was back at work.
Now since he is a medical doctor I would assume that he has a detailed understanding of biology and the physiological processes that are involved in healing a spinal cord. I don’t know specifically what images he created in mind or what he said to himself but I think the more detailed you can be with your visualisation the better.
So the key factors are – a conviction – a belief that healing is possible – faith – perseverance - and getting himself into a meditative state so that he could quieten down extraneous thoughts and focus in on directing the unconscious mind to heal the spine through the use of imagery and self talk. What stands out is that if his visualisation routine was interrupted by extraneous thoughts he would restart the visualisation process from the beginning so as to create a clear and precise video in the cinema of his mind.
Some years ago I had a client who found the chair in my office to be a little uncomfortable. She told me that some 18 years previously she got into an argument with her husband. She was upset and ran out the back of the house and slipped and fell over injuring her back. Thereafter she visited a chiropractor on a regular basis.
I got her to run Tad James Timeline Procedure which is basically about preserving the positive learnings and disconnecting the negative emotions. The process took about 20 minutes. She said that she audibly heard a sound and a feeling of warmth moving up her spinal cord. She new some transformation had occurred. A few days later she went to see her chiropractor who told her that her back had healed – he said that it was obviously all the good chiropractic work.
What can we learn from this example? Negative emotions that are associated with a negative event may block nerve supply and blood supply. If you clear the negative emotion then it allows the bodies natural healing processes to take place. Read more success stories.
I had a 47 year old woman who came to see me to stop drinking. She had a serious problem with alcohol and had spent ten to fifteen years in and out of rehab but to no avail. I asked her if there were any negative emotions that were a problem for her. She said that ‘anger’ was a problem. I used Tad James Timeline procedure to help her clear the negative emotion from an event which occurred when she was about 3 years old. She did not have to go into any details about the event at all. Just preserve the learnings and allow a new understanding to arise. She had been drinking alcohol as a way to suppress the anger around an old memory. Once the memory had been cleared she no longer had a desire or a need to drink. Read more success stories.
So now let’s take a look at a young woman who had developed anorexia. It turns out that she was sitting at a café having lunch with a friend when someone came over and told her that her father had just unalived himself. I can’t use the actual words on YouTube but I think you know what I mean by ‘unalived’. So she is shocked and thinks to herself, “I am never going to eat again”. So how was the eating disorder resolved? Not by clearing negative emotions or working on her identity and self image. No – the problem was resolved by realising that she had made a decision. So what I got her to do was to change the decision and make a new decision – and that healed the eating disorder.
Just because something happened in the past does not mean that you can not rewrite the past. Your past is just memories in your mind. Future is just imagination. But you are always in the present moment which means you have the power to rewrite the past – learn from the past and build the future of your dreams in the cinema of your mind. Read more success stories.
I was looking at Joe Dispenza’s website and there is a lot of testimonials from people who have healed from cancer. This is very encouraging.
Now let’s take a look at Dr Hammer. Ryke Geerd Hamer was a German Doctor who created Germanic New Medicine. The story is that his son tragically died and soon after Dr Hammer developed testicular cancer. He healed the cancer using traditional methods and then began to wonder if the shock had something to do with the illness. He studied 15,000 cancer patients and in each and every case he noted a significant emotional event one to three years prior to the origin of the illness. He is not saying that shock or emotional trauma causes cancer – just that if the person has cancer then there will most likely be a significant emotional event that needs to be healed.
Now some people in the medical profession use the analogy that cancer is a healing process that fails to complete itself – until the conditions are right. So perhaps the reason that Joe Dispenza is able to help so many people heal cancer could be because they are learning to release the negative emotions around past memories – and learning to hold feelings of acceptance, gratitude, self love and faith.
The next two anecdotes are very similar. Back in 1984 there was an American man dying from AIDS. So he accepts the fact that he is going to die. He makes a decision to move to Nepal. A few weeks after settling in Nepal he gets a blood test and learns that the AIDS has healed. So what happened?
He accepts the fact that he is going to die. He let’s go of what he has in the US and says goodbye to his friends. He then moves to a totally different environment – and I assume a totally different diet – and his body is healed.
And then we have the story of a 62 year old man dying from cancer in the USA. It is expensive to die in the US so he makes the decision to move to the Island of Ikaria off the coast of Greece with his wife. They move in with family members who own a vineyard in the hills. His wife feeds him in bed but after a couple of months he progressively spends more time outside. He then renovates the house so more family members can come and visit and he spends time working on the vineyard. He also goes to the village to hang out with friends and family in the local cafes in typical Greek style. Anyway the short story is that 20 years later he decides to go back to the USA to show the Doctors that he is now fit, strong and healthy, only to learn that all the Doctors have died.
So let’s unpack this. He accepts the fact that he is going die and he writes his Will. He downsizes and moves with his wife to the Island of Ikaria to live with his extended family on a vineyard in the cool, low humidity mountain air. The diet is probably quite different to what he ate in the US. The environment is quite different. He spends his time doing manual activities such as renovating the property and working on the vineyard out in nature. He spends time with friends and family in the village.
I assume he feels a sense of gratitude. I assume he feels thankful. He spends time outside in nature. I would say that he gets to relax in the café and have a good laugh with friends and family. I assume that he is kind to himself and kind to others. Read more about the Ikaria Effect.
And the last anecdote is of a 16 year old girl. I think she may have been Swedish. She had suffered with CFS her entire life and I think she flew to Spain with her family for a holiday. She gets off the airplane and the humidity was so much lower than her home town and she feels great. They are there for a couple of weeks and the CFS symptoms had totally disappeared. She refused to get back on the plane to go back to Sweden so her parents gave her permission to settle in Spain. So in this example we find that weather and climate may be a key factor for some people. Your environment – where you live in the world – where you work – who you spend your time with – your lifestyle – this all plays a part in health and well being.
