I know what I want to do today but who do I need to be in order to do those things?

As well as having a, "To do list", you need a, "To be list".

(By Abby Eagle) Most people understand the importance of writing down their goals. Some of us write our goals in a diary. Some of us write a shopping list for the day. This is your, "To do list".

But who do you need to be to bring those goals to fruition? So in the same way you need to know what your goal looks like, sounds like and feels like - you also need a clear internal representation in the cinema of your mind of who you need to be.

For years I would write a 'to do list' before going to bed at night then on waking in the morning I would ask myself, "What am I going to do today?" In conversations with my friends we would discuss what we had done and what we planned to do but rarely did the conversation turn to 'identity' - to who we needed to be to do the activity.

Don't get me wrong - I knew the importance of identity and I did a lot of work in that area but I had never asked myself before I went to bed, "Who do I need to be tomorrow?"

Why is that question important? Because what you experience and achieve in life is directly related to the conversations that you have with yourself. That is the questions that you ask yourself, the statements that you make, and the commands that you give yourself.

Some of the questions that might add to your, 'to be list' are:

As you ask these questions of yourself, thoughts will arise in the mind. Let's say the first thought that arises is about John Smith. The next question could be, "How do I take on the qualities and attributes of John Smith and have those qualities and attributes be available for me today? How will I use my voice to express that identity? What will be the volume, tonality, tempo and accent of my voice? How should I dress to best express that identity? What will I look like, sound like and feel like? How will I walk, how will I sit, how will I breath, how will I gesture with my hands, how will I hold my head?

On waking in the morning ask yourself, "Who do I want to be today such that at the end of the day I say to myself, "This was the best day of my life". And this moment - this very moment as you read these words ask yourself, "Who do I need to be in this moment?" And trust that your unconscious mind will provide the answer __ © Author Abby Eagle
